Nico van der Meulen Architects have designed the House Aboobaker in Limpopo, South Africa. Nico’s son, Werner van der Meulen, was called up to take on this project. This house is situated on the Tropic of Capricorn where the heat is excessive, especially in the summer months. There was an extensive use of steel in varied forms, and large expanse of opening glass and double volume areas, in order to allow as much natural light in as possible.
The architect Werner “opens” an existing room, creating a double volume space and in this space designed splendid and distinctive staircase, which became a major feature in the House, highlighted by special lighting designer. The owner also wanted a guest bedroom which is situated on the first floor, to open the living room. Let’s check out some image!
