This contemporary and self-sustaining “Island Retreat” is designed by a New Zealand based Fearon Hay Architects and is located on Waiheke Island, New Zealand. The residence is divided into three individual structures each with its own unique function boasting a living area, bedroom, studio and swimming pool.
Large retractable glass panels have been used to provide communication to the outdoors and perforated aluminum screens provide shading. In order to reduce the reliability on outside resources the architects have integrated solar energy system to generate energy during the day while thermal mass effectively fulfills the desire of heat. It is really an outstanding retreat for its occupant to live and enjoy.
