The Avondale Heights Library and Learning Centre is located on a prominent corner site opposite a McDonald’s restaurant and adjacent to the local shopping strip and car repair garages. This community building is located in Melbourne, Australia and was designed by H20 Architects. It is amid the quintessential Australian suburb famously celebrated by Barry Humphries.
The Avondale Heights Library & Learning Centre building was designed to minimize use of energy by reducing heating and cooling loads. It is naturally-ventilated, thermally efficient and utilizing appropriate materials with low or no off-gassing.
The three primary building elements such as existing gym, library and learning spaces are functional and architecturally prosaic. The main, larger block contains the library while a more compact adjoining volume contains study rooms and a foyer.
